Relaxing Milk Bath

The milk ads as an emulsifier for the oil (if you just put the oil into the bath direct, it will not be absorbed as easily into your skin because of the different densities). This aromatic bath helps to relax your senses and nourish your skin. Fill your bathtub with warm water and a carton of fresh milk. Add about 30 drops of an essential oil of your choice. Soak away!

Green Bean Coix Seed Facial Scrub

This recipe doubles as both a mask and scrub and can be used once a week for deep cleansing and removal of dead skin cells. Green bean and coix seed (available from Chinese medical stores) have good anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties, which are excellent for all skin types.

  • Get ready 1 tbsp green beans, 1 tbsp coix seeds, and 1 tsp honey dissolved in 3 tsp water.
  • Grind the dry ingredients to a powdery texture. Add the honey water and mix well to a firm paste.
  • Spread the mixture on your face and leave on for 20 minutes. Pat a little water onto your face and gently massage your skin in a circular motion.
  • Rinse off with tepid water and pat dry with a clean towel.

Exfoliating Oatmeal And Egg White Mask

The oatmeal exfoliates dead skin, and works wonders when you scrub it on. Egg white softens and smoothes dry skin gently. Mix egg whites with oatmeal; apply mixture on face and massage for one minute. Leave on face for five minutes or until egg whites dry. Rinse with water. Voila!

Honey Mask For Hands And Feet

Beauty products containing honey act as a great moisturiser for both hands and feet. Formulate your own honey spa with honey, liquid soap, vanilla extract and almond oil. Apply to 'I hands and feet, wrap with cling, wrap and leave on for about 10 minutes. Wash dry for a soft, silky result.

Olive Oil And Butter Hair Mask

This oil-based hair mask moisturises dry ends and smoothens the hair shaft for soft and shiny hair. Mix a tablespoon each of butter and olive oil, add a few drops of scented essential oil and smear the mixture onto hair ends. Be careful to avoid the roots. Leave the mixture on for a couple of hours and rinse off with tepid water. Instantly glossy hair!

Polishing Body Scrub

This scrub helps to detox and exfoliate the body, getting rid of dead skin cells. The walnut shells help to nourish the skin as well. Combine two finely diced green apples and five ground walnut shells. Add 10ml of olive oil. Apply the mixture all over your body and scrub away.

Avocado And Milk Body Mask

Milk contains lactic acid, which is moisturising, and avocados are full of Vitamin E, which nourishes the skin. Peel one avocado and remove the pit. Blend the avocado flesh and half a cup of milk together. Apply the paste to your body and leave on for 10 minutes before showering off.

Cucumber Facial Toner

This is a refreshing toner for normal skin. Chop up a small-sized fresh cucumber and blend it with half a cup of yoghurt. Apply to face and leave on for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse off. The remainder can be stored in the fridge for future use. Tip: Dairy products are a good source of Vitamin A; it helps to renew skin cells and keep skin tissue healthy. So eat up!
