Thou Shalt Be Stylish

Female Trendsetters Dos And Don'ts

  • Always wear something that makes you comfortable. When you're comfortable, you're confident, and when you're confident, you're sexy.
  • Never wear clothes that don't fit you properly. Girls are so afraid of going up a size, but you will look slimmer in the right cut and fit than if you're squeezed into something too small.
  • Never skimp on essentials. Have great bags, shoes and jeans.
  • Don't be afraid to play around with accessories. They dress up even the simplest outfit.
  • When in doubt, wear a hat, sunglasses and flip-flops.
  • Always put on make-up before you step out of the house. At least slap on some lipstick. It's important to look presentable.
  • If you're looking a hit pale or feeling under the weather, dress in bright colors. Light will reflect color onto your face and you'll look better.
  • The price and brand of your clothes are not important as long as they flatter your figure and make you look good.
  • Young people should learn to wear more colors. They make you feel livelier and more confident, and may even bring you good luck.
  • Middle-aged women should stay away from clothes that are too revealing. The furthest you can take it to is a backless gown. And please shave your armpits if you wear something like that.
  • Dress for yourself. Don't follow trends blindly if they don't flatter your figure or reflect your personality.
  • Mix and match. Don't look like you have stepped straight out of some advertisement wearing one brand from head to toe. Inject your own originality by combining luxury labels with "mass-tige" (the term for luxury styles at affordable prices) and high street brands.
  • Invest in a great pair of jeans. It may take a while to find the perfect fit but it is completely worth the effort.

Male Trendsetters Dos And Don'ts

  • Always match your shirt to your shoes according to style and color. Coordination is the key.
  • Clothes must be ironed if you want to look smart.
  • If you have eyebags, wear shades to hide them. It's good to have more than one pair to suit different styles of clothing.
  • Brands aeces well.
  • Men must always be clean-shaven. Otherwise, you will look very haggard. The best way is to use a razor and shave upwards, as electric shavers don't remove all the stubble.
  • Always carry an It bag. It doesn't matter if your outfit is cheap, a stylish bag will top off your look.
  • A good, preferably expensive, watch is very important. It makes you look smut and earns you respect,
  • Don't be a label whore. Don't put everything expensive on your body just to impress. You will end up looking silly.

The Rights Of Spring

Strong on nostalgia yet gutsy and bold, menswear this season has come a long way from its terribly safe, convention bound beginnings. Highly luxurious fabrics are taken for granted, along with immaculate workmanship and rigorous tailoring: Here are some key trends that make this season so special. Get it right, and stride out in style.

That Ubiquitous '30s Cream Suit

Designers seem to have been inspired by Oxford schoolboys as glamourised in Another Countryand Brideshead Revisited. Think creamy linen suits and tennis sweaters worn with throwaway charm. Labels doing this look well: Kenzo, Issey Miyake, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Paul Smith, Alexander McQueen and Dolce & Gabbana.

Get Rebelliously Rumpled

The irresistible rise of street fashion as well as the revival of '90s grunge mean a rumpled, unwashed, sexy savagery. Labels doing this well: John Galliano, Ann Demeulemeester, Bernhard Willhelm and Vivienne Westwood.

Get In Touch With Your Soft Side

The newest-looking colors to wear this season are not your simple pastels. Instead, these nude and ice-cream shades have been given a faded, antiqued, washed treatment for a chalky, dusty, milky quality. Labels doing this well: Burberry Prorsum, Alessandro Dell'Acqua, Prada, Hermes, and Dries Van Noten.

Grab A Bag

Handbag madness is not only afflicting women. Every major menswear collection sent out a parade of bags for the fashionable male.

Pin-Sharp Tailoring Worn With A Modern, Casual Attitude

Sharp jackets worn with baggy skater shorts, immaculately fitted trousers worn with de-constructed sweaters and barely-there slippers. It's totally new! Labels doing this well: Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Kris Van Assche, Neil Barrett, Raf Simons and Jil Sander.

Say "Yes, Sir!" To Military Accents

Camouflage may be dead but the military influence is prevalent. Labels doing this well: Burberry Prorsum, Yohji Yamamoto and Giorgio Armani.

Crop It

Whether slim-cut or baggy, tailored or wafty, this season's hot trend is cropped trousers. Hemlines are rising, and every length looks cool - from above-the-ankle  to top-of-the-thigh.

Go Punk

There's a strong movement towards the hardedged, anarchic, abrasive chic that's tough and romantic at the same time. Labels doing this well: Comme des Garpons, Junya Watanabe, Raf Simons and Martin Margiela.
