Meridian Channels

There are twelve main meridian channels or pathways of the body. Each channel is associated with a major visceral organ of the body, such as the liver, the kidney, and the heart. The meridian channels run along the major parts of the body, such as the arms and legs, and end at the tips of the fingers or toes.

The energies of Yin and Yang flow through the meridian channels of the body. The flow of Yin and Yang energies can be stimulated by pricking certain points on the surface of the body through which the meridians pass. There are about a thousand acupuncture points on the body located along the meridian lines.

The location of the points are given by ancient Chinese acupuncture charts, although there is still debate as to where the exact location of each point is. By balancing the forces of Yin and Yang, chi is enabled to flow freely and harmoniously through the body, thus restoring balance and well-being.

Heart Meridian

There are about a thousand acupuncture points on the body. All of which are located along the meridian lines. It is believed that pain registered in one part of the body is actually a symptom of a problem elsewhere. Because chi flows along the channels of the meridian lines it is possible for pain to be felt in one area of the meridian line and the source of the problem to be in another area along the channel.

Acupunture affects the distribution of Yin and Yang along the meridian lines so that chi will be able to flow freely and harmoniously, thus restoring balance. Acupunture points along the meridian line of the heart can aid in the treatment of heart complaints, such as high or low blood pressure, it can also help eye and skin problems, and alleviate symptoms of stress, anxiety and tension.

Kidney Meridian

Acupuncture points along the meridian line of the kidney can aid in the treatment of urinary disorders, hemorrhoids, and constipation. There are about a thousand acupuncture points on the body. All of which are located along the meridian lines. It is believed that pain registered in one part of the body is actually a symptom of a problem elsewhere.

Lung Meridian

There are about a thousand acupuncture points on the body. All of which are located along the meridian lines. It is believed that pain registered in one part of the body is actually a symptom of a problem elsewhere. The first six points of Yin along the lung meridian deal with swollen joints, excessive heat in joints, bleeding of the nose, heart pains, mental depression and inability to stretch the arms above the head.

Acupunture points along the lung meridian can also aid in the treatment of respiratory problems such as asthma, allergies, bronchitis, and coughs.

Spleen Meridian

The meridian lines run along major parts of the body, such as the arms, and legs, and end at the tips of the fingers or toes. For example, the spleen meridian runs down the inside of the left leg, from the mid abdominal region to the big toe.

Stomach Meridian

There are about a thousand acupuncture points on the body. All of which are located along the meridian lines. It is believed that pain registered in one part of the body is actually a symptom of a problem elsewhere. For example, pain from the stomach is registered in the skin of the upper abdomen and the adjacent part of the back.

Both areas have interconnecting nerve endings making it possible for pain to be felt in an area other than the source of the problem. Acupunture affects the distribution of Yin and Yang along the channels that compose the meridian lines so that chi will be able to flow freely and harmoniously. Acupunture points along the meridian line of the stomach can help relieve digestive problems such as ulcers, nausea, and colitis.
