Enrichment Activities

Time To Start?

At what age should you send your children to a drama class, learn a musical instrument, take up a sport, or learn dance? There is no correct age to start. It varies from child to child and you can't compare one child to another. Observe how you children behave in social situations to see if they are ready for a group activity or a structured class. If you'd like them to socialize and they are still very young, a play session with kids of the same age is a good place to start.

Missing The Right Choice

If you are looking for a structured class, ask your friends and relatives for recommendations. Talk to them about their own experiences with instructors. Take pains to find out how many age groups there are in one class. Generally, it's time if the children are the same age or just one year older or younger.

But it's not a good idea for five-year-old to be in the same class as an eight-year-old. Developmentally and socially, their abilities are different and the older children may pick on and make fun of the younger ones. Once you've got a list of schools you like, make a trip and check each of them out in person.

Even if you're looked at the school's website, you should still pay them a visit, have a look at the classrooms and speak to some of the teachers who may be teaching your child. Be clear about why you want to send your child to a certain school. What type of experience do you want your child to have?

It is time consuming to do all this, but it is worth the effort to make sure you find a school and instructor that will suit your child. Sometimes, it may take a few tries before you find the perfect fit.

Enrichment Classes Tips

  • Ask the school if they offer trial classes. These are a good way of finding out if your child likes the type of activity on offer and if the environment is good.

  • Do your homework and compare what different schools charge for the same programme. Some schools charge for materials used and others include those costs in the fees. Don't feel embarrassed to ask what the fees include and if there are hidden costs.

  • Save yourself hassle and transport costs by looking for a school near your home.

Fish Oil For Children's Behavior

New tests are being conducted in the UK to find out if Omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil can improve behavioral problems in children, such as attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, dyslexia, Asperger's syndrome and pervasive development disorder.
