Before You Buy A DLP Projector

The (Digital Light Processing) DLP projector is gaining popularity far both home and office use. DLP is the product of Texas Instruments, sing the DMD or Digital Micromirror Device hip that has thousands of tiny mirrors, each -presenting a pixel. These mirrors tilt back and forth to deflect light as indicated by the source o create the image.

Here Are The Common Specifications And Features Of Projectors

Brightness (ANSI Lumens)

Projector brightness is measured in ANSI lumens. ANSI stands for the American National Standards Institute, which developed a standard measure to Define the amount of brightness given off by a Projector. Brightness typically ranges between 700 to 2,000 lumens or more. How bright your projector should be depends on the viewing environment.

Contrast Ratio

The contrast ratio is the proportion between white and black. One way of determining the ratio is to calculate the Full On/Off contrast which measures the ratio of the light output of an all-white image (full on) and the light output of an all-black image (full off). The larger the contrast ratio, the better the projector is in showing subtle color details and withstanding external lighting.

Resolution

Resolution is the number of pixels (or picture elements) the projector uses to create an image. More pixels per unit area produce a higher resolution. Resolution is represented by two numbers, for example, 800 x 600. The first number refers to the number of pixels running across horizontally and the second number refers to the number of pixels running vertically.

Uniformity

Uniformity is the percentage of brightness carried from all corners and edges of the image. A higher uniformity ratio means better consistency throughout the image. Keystone correction Keystone correction allows you to adjust trapezoidal distortion of the projected image when the projector is not positioned at the centre of the screen and the image comes out at an angle.

Lamp Life

DLP projectors usually have a lamp life of between 1,000 to 2,000 hours. This specification is usually referred to as the "half-life" of the lamp. The half-life is the point at which the lamp is half its original brightness when new. The lamp will still work at half-life, but the brightness will diminish gradually.

Connectivity And Ease Of Use

The projector should be easily connected to different input sources like DVD, video and computer and come with the necessary cables Most projectors are plug-and-play, user-friendly and can be set up within minutes.

Portability

Portable projectors weigh anything between one and five kilograms and are a bit smaller than the average laptop.
