How Exfoliation Can Benefit Different Skin Needs

Regular exfoliation can make age spots appear softer and pores smaller, minimize lines and wrinkles, and make skin tone more even and vibrant looking. It also enhances the benefits of moisturizers and other ingredients as well as enhancing the appearance and staying power of make up.

There are manual exfoliators (everything from washcloths to loofahs to grainy scrubs) to dislodge flakes so they can be washed away. And there are chemical exfoliators that work by gently loosening the bonds holding dead skin cells to the surface.

But don't over-exfoliate. Since facial tissue is delicate, exfoliation creams, washcloths or other hand abrasives should not be used on a daily base. Over-exfoliation can damage the skin and cause redness, irritation, peeling and dryness. It happens when the formula is too strong for your skin type and when it is done too frequently.

How Exfoliation Can Benefit Different Skin Needs

Dry Skin

It allows for more effective moisturisation, so skin looks and feels comfortable.

Partly Dry/Partly Oily Skin

It keeps skin looking clean, healthy, more uniform in tone and less likely to break out.

Oily Skin

It keeps pores clear, discourages clogging and helps diminish the appearance of dark spots caused by acne.

Ageing Skin

It helps skin look younger by assisting the skin's natural renewal process, which slows as you age. It addresses dullness and lining by attacking the appearance of past sun damage.

Uneven Skin Tone

It helps diminish the appearance of dark spots (hyper-pigmentation) and light spots (hypo-pigmentation)

Drinking It Up

Your skin will drink in moisture the most when you have just stepped out of the shower and your skin is still damp. This trick works for your face too.

Double Duty

To ensure that sun protection is incorporated into your skincare regime, pick a moisturiser with SPF protection. That way, you can protect your skin while moisturising.

Scent-Free

If you find your facial skin is more sensitive, avoid using fragranced products as they are more likely to cause irritation. It is best to save the scents for your body instead.

Take Cover

Always cover your skin when you're out in the sun. Whether you are wearing a wide-brimmed hat or a high-factor sunscreen, do your skin a favor by keeping away age spots and wrinkles brought on by sun damage.

Scrub Up

Boost circulation by dry-brushing your skin before hopping into the shower. This helps to get rid of dead skin cells and avoid ingrown hairs at the same time. Emerge from the shower with a lovely glow.
